About Miami

Miami is a pretty well-known city within the state of Florida in the United States of America. It’s so well known that it is sometimes confused as the state capital. It’s a port city that sits along the Atlantic Coast and is the second-most populous city in the southeastern United States. How big is it? It’s population is about 5.5 million, making it the eighth-most populated city and the fourth-largest urban area. Basically, the place is pretty massive. And fortunately, all of that is put to good use. It’s a huge city that is a financial and cultural powerhouse. It was classified as an Alpha-World City in 2012 in the World Cities Study Group’s inventory. That means it’s an important place within the global economic system. It has also been nicknamed the “Capital of Latin America” due to its large Latino population and has the third-tallest skyline in the United States, sporting more than 300 high-rises.

Miami was always inhabited by Native Americans. The Tequestas were occupants before the location was “discovered” by Europeans in 1566. Spain had control over the land until 1821 when it finally ceded the land to the United States. The land was developed subsequently as Fort Dallas was developed in an attempt to remove the Seminole. Now Miami is sectioned off into North, South, West and Downtown areas. Downtown Miami is technically the eastern part of Miami and is the central business district. The southern side is home to many of Miami’s more historic sites, including Coral Way, an old historic residential neighborhood that was originally built in 1922.

The west side includes little Havana and is considered to be the home of more of the traditionally immigrant neighborhoods. Today the majority of these immigrants come from Cuba and Central America. On the northern side is midtown, which is where the wealthier homes and residents are located.

Miami is a great place to vacation during the winter time if you live up north because temperatures only average around 68-70 degrees, with the highs maxing out at 80. If you’re looking to get away from snow and blizzards, this is the place to be. Summertime is a little less comfortable as the temperature rises to the 90s and the high humidity makes it seem even hotter. Then, of course, you may experience the occasional hurricane from June until the end of November. Find the best Miami wallpaper above.
