Some cool facts about Assassin's Creed

In a lot of ways, Assassin’s Creed feels like Ubisoft’s Call of Duty. It’s a yearly franchise that continues to produce huge sales numbers but also suffers a bit from the lack of variation within the game from one installation to the next. Alright, so what exactly is Assassin’s Creed? It’s a franchise that is developed and published by Ubisoft. It’s an action-adventure game that includes fictional stories and characters and marries them with real historical places and events. The entire series is based on a novel written by Vladimir Bartol called Alamut. The first game, Assassin’s Creed, was released on November 13, 2007, while the most recent game, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia, released February 9, 2016.

The first several Assassin’s Creed games actually followed a singular protagonist but the franchise has actually gone through a few. The main story arcs revolve around two secret ancient societies called the Assassins and the Knights Templar (we know, not exactly original). The franchise has been stretched in some pretty weird ways. Originally, these groups existed before humanity did, with the game referencing the beings in this time as “those who came before.” the first mark in the current timeline begins in 2012. A mega-corporation called Abstergo is secretly run by the Knights Templar and they’ve managed to capture a genetic ancestor of the Assassins and use him to find several historical artifacts.

Gameplay was pretty novel at the time, though the game originally touted giving the player the ability to stalk their targets and assassinate them at any given time. In game, the player can easily scale huge buildings and obstacles with simple controls. The combat system is a bit basic as well, leaving the player able to annihilate huge amounts of guards by simply parrying and counterattacking. Blending in with the player’s surroundings is often one of the player’s best tools. Play styles tend to vary dramatically as the player can typically choose to assassinate their target in numerous ways, one of which including an option to just kill your way through.
